Zuri Foundation

The Zuri Foundation is a small UK charity working in Kenya to help young people break the cycle of poverty they are born into through education and employment. Working in partnership with local organisations and charities we are enabling young people to earn a living and get access to education. In doing so many of these young people are able to avoid or leave a life of crime, destitution and poverty.

All of our work helps young children and adults in slums in and around Nairobi . It is estimated that one billion people worldwide live in slums, a figure that is set to double by 2030. Employment and education is hard to access but changes lives instantly as we have seen many times first hand.
The Zuri Foundation’s charity application is currently in process and we hope to be officially registered by the end of March.

Last year Jeremy from Shared Earth UK Ltd visited Kenya with the Zuri Foundation and was invited to a performance by KSEEEP (a youth project that engages young people through dance, football, education and a number of other programs). Inspired by the performance and the young people he spoke to, Jeremy came up with the idea Walk Against Crime. The Zuri Foundation have been working (and fundraising for) with KSEEEP since 2010 so joined forces with Jeremy to create the Walk Against Crime.

Lands End to John O’Groats – 2013

Because of the recession and to give us more time, we have decided to postpone our Lands End to John o’ Groats walk – and the dance tour – from 2012 to 2013.

In 2012 we’ll do a shorter walk from Southport to Hornsea (The Trans Pennine Trail) which will take just over 2 weeks. Care to join us?

We’ll still be fund-raising and would welcome your support if you’d like to join any of the other activities we have planned – or do you have ideas of your own?

Bootham School to sponsor a dancer

A talk was held with the sixth form at Bootham School, York on 27 September which was received with great enthusiasm. About 100 students attended. Bootham School wishes to sponsor one of the dancers for their trip to the UK.
